How To Overcome Dental Anxiety & Fear

Dental Anxiety and Fear of Going to the Dentist

When most people make that overwhelming call to set up an appointment for a dental visit, anxiety and fear are some of the most common feelings. Unlike a scene from a horror movie with a drill-wielding man who is eager to cause you pain and discomfort,  a great dentist and his trained staff will go out of their way to ease your mind and make you as comfortable as possible all while providing quick, effective treatments.

Here is a list of some of the most common dental fears that Dr. Andolino and his team will help you overcome:

  • Fear of embarrassment about the condition of teeth.

  • Fear of gagging.

  • Fear of injections.

  • Fear of loss of control.

  • Fear of not becoming numb when injected with Novocaine.

  • Fear of pain.

  • Fear of the dentist as a person.

  • Fear of the hand piece (or the drill).

When choosing a dentist, don’t be afraid to ask questions! If the thought of a dentist still makes you squeamish, try bringing an iPod or portable music player to help you relax. Also throat sprays may help with any gag reflux discomfort you may feel.

Everyone has a fear of something. If your fear is going to the dentist, then please reach out to our staff. Let's talk about your needs and fears so that we can make your visit more relaxing and enjoyable.
